Free forging is a metal part manufactured through a forging process. This forging process is simpler than using a mold because it is not limited by the mold, but is hand-forged according to the skill and experience of the craftsman. Freeform forging typically involves the use of a forging hammer or press to shape a metal blank into the desired shape in a very flexible manner.

Free forgings are widely used in manufacturing industries, including the automotive industry, aerospace, construction, machinery manufacturing, energy industry, etc. They are usually used to manufacture various parts, such as automobile engine parts, aircraft parts, building structural parts, pipe connections, etc.

Production Process

Blank selection: Select appropriate metal blanks, which are usually heat treated to improve their plasticity.

Billet heating: Heating the billet to the appropriate forging temperature, usually above the recrystallization temperature of the metal, to improve its plasticity.

Putting into the mold: The heated blank is placed into the mold. The mold usually consists of two or more parts and can be an open mold or a closed mold.

Apply pressure: Apply high pressure to press the blank into the desired shape, usually using equipment such as a hydraulic press, forging press, or hammering machine.

Cooling and finishing: Cooling the forged part may then require finishing to meet dimensional and surface quality requirements.

It is used in medium speed diesel engine crankshaft maintenance, press, compressor and other industries.
